我们鼓励社会学专业的学生和所有感兴趣的学生成为社会学学者协会的会员，并参加春季和秋季学期的社会学讲座研讨会. 社会学系致力于通过提供发展领导技能的机会来提高学生的大学经历, 参加研究型论坛, 加强人际沟通能力, 并通过参与服务型项目为社区做出贡献.
Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) 是一个国际学术社会学荣誉学会，也是德州南方大学社会学系的一个组成部分. 荣誉学会的重点是通过对人类的研究和服务来促进对社会的科学研究. 这个荣誉协会的目的是促进学术研究, 包括研究生和本科生. 社会学系的老师们努力鼓励所有社会学专业的学生在学业上取得优异成绩. 成为AKD成员, a student must be an officially declared 社会学 major or have a serious interest in 社会学 within an official program of the University; has to have at least junior standing; have maintained a 3.0 in 社会学 courses; has accumulated the equivalent of an overall grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale and rank in the top 35% of their class in general scholarship; and has completed at least four regular courses in sociology prior to initiation.
